Background
Attorney Firicano immediately dove into the trenches of trial work during law school, cultivating the skill set that would later animate her trial practice as an attorney. Entering and winning both the second year and third year mock trial competitions, as well as becoming a semi-finalist in a regional trial competition, she also worked alongside two seasoned criminal defense attorneys throughout law school. Through this internship, she began attending court, second-chairing complex trials, and presenting arguments and examinations while still a student as allowed by court rule. The experience began the continuum for developing her skills and her affinity for courtroom combat.
Legal Experience
As an attorney for almost 20 years, she has successfully defended her clients at trial against charges ranging from drunk driving (OUI) to life felonies, including sexual assault charges, drug distribution charges, firearms charges, among others, in the district and superior courts of Massachusetts as well as in the federal district court. Through her years of practice, the relationships with court personnel across the Commonwealth which she has cultivated assists her and her clients in navigating the judicial process. Two aspects of trial preparation remain pivotal for Attorney Firicano in crafting effective criminal defense strategies for her clients: constructing an artful narrative that accompanies the theory of defense, and intensive pretrial investigation that uncovers evidence to undercut the prosecution’s witnesses and their overall case. These stratagems, together with strong court room advocacy and rigorous cross-examinations, help maximize her ability to secure favorable trial results for her clients. They also provide a solid foundation from which she can effectively leverage an advantageous alternative resolution, in lieu of trial, based upon the circumstances of the case when necessary. Attorney Firicano’s experience with lodging a variety of legal challenges on behalf of clients over the years has also given her a dexterity with constructing intricate appellate arguments. Being ready, willing and able to appeal an adverse ruling to a higher court when a judge incorrectly applies the law is critical to preserving her clients’ rights and to assembling the strongest body of evidence for presentation at trial. Compelling the government to disclose all evidence in a case, including evidence which can sometimes exonerate a client, also frequently requires successive demands by way of legal motions and appeals. Being relentless, persistent and maintaining endurance are key components for Attorney Firicano in successfully navigating the criminal justice system on behalf of her clients.
